June 3 – Stops along the Cabot Trail

Wednesday morning started out overcast and a little cool. Today’s adventure – checkout spots along the Cabot Trail, a scenic loop around the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The loop is about 185 miles, so it’s definitely a multi-day experience.

The Uisge Ban (pronounced Ishkaban) was our first stop. This was a forested, mostly easy hike to a waterfall. About 1 3/4 mile round trip. The road to the trail was more difficult to navigate than the hike itself , LOTS of potholes. Kind of tricky for a big rig.

Since the ride to the trail took longer than expected we decided to forgo the stop at Glendora Distillery, the 1st single malt distillery in North America (not a huge disappointment for us) and headed to the next spot on the list.

You’ve probably already guessed that there would be a food spot, the Clucking Hen Bakery and Cafe. This time we didn’t take pictures of our food though, just outdoor photos.

There were a few scenic spots along the way, but we weren’t able to get in any more hikes because of time constraints. Our eventual destination was the Cape Breton Highlands Cheticamp Campground.

The drive was mostly along the coast and mountainous. Who knew? It is absolutely gorgeous.

Video of gorgeous view.

Tomorrow we have a few hikes planned.
