May 20, 2026 – Thunder Hole

Woke up to a picture perfect day in Acadia. We rode our bikes about 3 miles to the “loop road” This is a one way road the follows the coast of Mt Desert Island.

We locked up our bikes to walk about 1/2 mile to be at Thunder Hole 2 hours before high tide to get the full effect of the waves crashing into a cave that resonates like thunder. Our timing was right but the sea was fairly calm and we probably didn’t get the full effect.

We then went back to our bikes and rode the loop road about 4 miles back to camp. This last leg was all along the rocky coast with great views
