May 21/22, 2026 – Hiking and Biking

Our day started early on Thursday. The destination was Bar Harbor Island Bridge. There is a 90 minute window, 1 1/2hr before and 1 1/2 hr after low tide when you’re able to walk from Bar Harbor, ME to Bar Island, ME. Low tide yesterday was 9:12am.

It was quite brisk out, but it was fun to say we did it and didn’t get stranded. The next opportunity to walk across would’ve been 9 hrs later.

Town was not too crowded that early in the morning so we hopped into a quaint little diner for breakfast. On the menu it said “cell phones are not allowed, talk to each other.” You gotta love a place like that.

We had no real plans for the afternoon. Tom wanted to do a ride and I wanted to paint.

Kinda glad I chose to sit that one out. Not sure I’m cut out for 1,751 ft elevation gain.

I did Gouache #6, a Plein Air painting, while Tom was on his ride.

This morning we chose not to go on an adventure first thing, so I was able to do a morning Plein Air painting. And the lighting was just gorgeous today.

We headed to Jordan House Pond again, but this time via RV. Lots of other people had the same idea at 9:00am, but luckily we found a spot to park. Today we decided to walk the perimeter of the pond, 3.2 miles, 2 1/2 hr hike.

It was as gorgeous as it looks. The terrain was mostly flat at the start of the hike, just a few tripper rocks. But we brought poles again, so we remained on two feet. 😜

This was off the path, but so pretty.

Once we crossed this bridge, which was about half way, the terrain became rocky- boulders. And just when I thought we’d never get on flat land again, the terrain changed again.

It must’ve been a mile of boardwalk. Luckily, there were little jut outs where you could get out of the way of people coming towards you.

At the end of the hike is the Jordan Pond House….and popovers!

Another fun day!
